Mary-Scott Gates Hennigan, Attorney Chesterfield, VA

Mary-Scott Gates Hennigan, Attorney Chesterfield, VA

Mary-Scott “Scottie” Gates Hennigan, Mr. Gates' youngest daughter, has been an active part of Gates Law Offices since the fall of 2000. Beginning as a part-time legal assistant while she completed her undergraduate degree at Virginia Commonwealth University, she became inspired to attend law school and join the family practice.

While in law school, Mrs. Hennigan spent a year as an intern with the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach and gained a vast amount of experience, both in the courtroom, prosecuting cases, and in the area of legal research, drafting appellate briefs. Upon graduating and being admitted to the Virginia State Bar, Scottie began working for a small law firm in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Scottie's first child was born March 2008 and she decided to step back from the full-time practice of law to spend time with her daughter. She then began working part-time at Gates Law Offices, as an Associate Attorney, splitting her time between the Chesterfield office and telecommuting from her home in Virginia Beach.  Her husband, Tim, graduated from law school in May 2010 and they moved back to the Richmond area shortly thereafter and he joined the firm as well.  Their second child, a son, was born in February 2011.

Scottie is in the Chesterfield office two days a week and spends the rest of her time working from home and spending time with her husband and children.
